In honor of Earth Day, we are going to enjoy Orange County’s beautiful wildflowers by hiking Buck Gully Reserve in Newport Beach. This easy 5.5-mile roundtrip trail is mostly level with a few inclines here and there. The gully is full of beautiful wild flowers this time of year. Most of the trail is shaded with trees and brush and runs along a creek. You will be crossing the creek over three bridges. Hikers will encounter birds, butterflies, frogs and lizards. The trail was recently cleared but hikers might still encounter poison oak and ticks. It is recommended to wear long pants and sturdy walking shoes. Plan to carry 1 to 1.5 liters of water per person. Might also want to bring sunscreen, tick repellant, hat, and snack. There are no restrooms on the trail, please plan accordingly.
